Hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Chenese Lewis who now calls Los Angeles her home does it all – as a former Torrid model, Miss Plus America beauty pageant winner and presently, motivational speaker, positive body image advocate, actress and host – Chenese does it all! Torrid had the opportunity to chat with the lovely Chenese to discuss her involvement with Love Your Body Day, her popular Plus Model radio and her upcoming involvement with Kiss the Curves.

Torrid: Can you tell us about the National Organization for Women’s Love Your Body Day and what inspired you to become involved with this event and the organization as a whole?
CL: Love Your Body Day is a day where we celebrate and promote a healthy body message to the community. I took on the role as the Chairperson for the Hollywood Chapter of Love Your Body because of the great message and work they’ve done in the past, but also because of my previous experience as a positive body image advocate.

Torrid: Were there any celebrities on hand to help promote the message?
CL: Whitney Thompson winner of Season 10’s America’s Next Top Model was our celebrity host for the day. There were a few celebrities who came and showed their support, but the event wasn’t about the celebrities, it was about the people.

Torrid: How can our Fashionistas get involve with Love Your Body Day?

Torrid: Can you tell us about Plus Model Radio?
CL: It’s the number one podcast for Plus Size women and actually, Torrid broke the news on PLUS Model Radio during the Torrid store opening in Puerto Rico! I’m on every Monday nights and you can catch it anywhere in the world since it’s available online and it’s entirely free for your enjoyment.

Torrid: What are your Torrid must-have fashion items?
CL: I absolutely love all of their sequin and sparkly tops and dresses. I’m also a big fan of their cold shoulder tops!

Torrid: What words of encouragement do you have for our Plus Size Fashionistas?
CL: I want people to know size doesn’t define who you are as a person. And that’s why everything I do is about building self-esteem and confidence. When young girls focus on media and magazines, they’re pressured to compare themselves to that. I want them to know that they are beautiful just the way they are!
