Find Tokyo's Hottest Trends at Torrid

With these six surprisingly versatile and easy-to-wear trends, you can look like a fashion know-it-all!

Those in the know know that Tokyo is the most cutting-edge fashion capital in the world, so what could be better than checking out what’s hot on the streets of this style-conscious city? A trip to Tokyo? OK, how about the next best thing? A trip to Torrid!

Torrid designer Sarah and buyer Jennifer pounded the pavement of Tokyo’s trendiest shopping districts, took pictures and bought samples of the clothing to share with us all back home. What they saw a lot of was the layering and mixing and matching of six main trends:

Boho Beauty: Far-out style isn’t far away with vintage denim, including the boyfriend jean and denim minis; paisley and floral prints; embroidered and crocheted details; peasant tops and fringed boots.

Cowgirl Chic: Whoa…livin’ on a prairie! Chuck these into your chuck wagon: ditsy prints, flirty skirts, oversized denim shirts, denim jackets, cowboy hats and boots, and crocheted details.

Love Boat: Exciting and new! Set a course for adventure in all-American red, white and blue; nautical details; denim; rompers and overalls; tiered skirts and dresses; and stars, stripes and dots.

’80s Pop: Girls just wanna have fun in bright colors set off with black, bold stripes, checkerboard and lightning bolt prints, animal patterns, neon pumps and off-the-shoulder tops.

Beat It: We’re talkin’ Kerouac, not the King of Pop. Be the heppest hepcat around in black, white and heather grey; face icon graphics; two-color stripes; leggings; skinny jeans and moto influences.

Boy Meets Girl: Anything boys can do girls can do better, including oversized vests, fedoras, ties, tie-shaped necklaces, suspender tops and just a touch of bling because you’re still a lady.

The cool thing is that there’s a lot of overlap between these groups, which makes it easy to incorporate pieces you love so that you’re on trend but still uniquely you.
