Brand Spotlight: Jezebel

Where it came from: Though it may seem like a Jenny-come-lately, Jezebel has actually been seducing lingerie lovers since 1957, when its “Wicked Wisp of a Bra” appeared in the Los Angeles Examiner. The precursor of the Wonder Bra, it promised high, rounded accentuation through the use of a front hook and deep-plunging cut. Wicked indeed. Daring décolletage-baring designs from the runways of Paris made Jezebel’s bras a must-have among those in the know, and the brand quickly took off, expanding its line with new silhouettes, including the “483” lace push-up bra of the 1970s. Even when people were burning bras, Jezebel continued to set the world on fire! Changes in ownership over the next 20 years slowed Jezebel’s momentum, but it arose from the ashes “just in time for the 21st century” after being acquired by Felina Lingerie. Jezebel now has high visibility in department stores like Macy’s as well as specialty boutiques across the country.

What it’s all about: Like her big sister Felina, Jezebel often features beautifully detailed embroidery and ultra-feminine touches. But Jezebel puts a flirtier, more playful spin on sensuality with motifs from polka dots to butterflies. One particular panty’s rear consisted of a large heart made entirely of sheer mesh rosettes. (Its matching bra even made a brief appearance in the movie The 40-Year-Old Virgin.) As you can see from this tongue-in-cheek design, Jezebel is for the coquette who likes to keep things fun and knows she doesn’t need a special occasion to feel glamorous. Better yet, its designs defy the laws of physics by lifting and accentuating while providing the barest coverage so that what’s on display is you, only better.

Why we love it: Can we say sexy? Yes, we know sexy is a word that’s bandied around an awful lot, but Jezebel lingerie really is about as sexy as it gets. It’s elegant, feminine, flirty, well-made and has the cutest details! And Jezebel does all this without being trashy—not that there’s anything wrong with that. Sometimes you’re in the mood to vamp it up, but when you want to be provocative yet classy, Jezebel’s where it’s at.
